My name is Chad Gardner. Welcome to the world of tuning!
KERMIT RACING Started as my hobby. I started working on my first Nissan 240sx in 1999. Slowly, mostly through trial and error, I learned about mechanical improvements and the impact they had on the performance of the vehicle. I enjoyed the challenge of working on vehicles not only to improve the performance, but also to diagnose poor operation. I found the more that I learned, the more my friends and other people sought me out for information on their vehicles. While I was no expert on all types of tuning, I could give good general advice. Many of my friends were spending thousands of dollars on equipment that had little or no effect on the performance of their vehicles. My friends, like many consumers were unaware of what compromises they were making with their choices.
Early on I found that there was little information available to the consumer. The internet was a good start, but many of the things that are disseminated in that arena are not based on fact and in some case detrimental to the performance of an engine. I continued researching as I built my first, second and third 240sx. My third 240sx was a 1989 hatchback with an SR20 DET engine swap. I sought the help of many people in the business of selling performance parts and found that they rarely knew more about their products than what was printed on the box. Further more, many shops acted like information and equipment Nazis, denying access to use their equipment or basic knowledge. Living in the Midwest also meant that most of the knowledgeable persons in the field were located in California or Florida, essentially unavailable to me.

All of these things led me to start tuning on my own. I attended EFI University’s programs to gather important information. I then started looking for a place to do my tuning, sharpen my skills and locate my business. I continued to operate out of my garage and gather business through word of mouth. I located a local reputable facility and arranged to utilize their dynometer for tuning.
The motto of Kermit Racing is basic information and advice is free, application specific information and expertise are not. I am happy to discuss with you the basic principles of tuning or direct you to better sources of information, but don’t bring me your wire harness, expecting me to identify and fix your problem for free. I have spent thousands of dollars educating myself on the principles of tuning and purchasing equipment. I hope to recoup that investment.
